2012 has been good to “The Taste” with shows and festivals all over the UK culminating in them playing at the “Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds” tour aftershow party at the O2 Liverpool in September. Download Passion Parade and you will know why.
Aerials Up – The Old And The Innocent
After a euphoric trip to Canadian Music Week, the Glasgow band hot foot it back to the UK to see the release of their latest single The Old And The Innocent. Bigger and better things are expected from the gang, after being one of Music Week’s top 12 for 2012 tips.
Weather Barn – Park Hands
With this single comes an extra two tracks, ‘Cinnamon Hill’ and ‘Each Side of Satan’ which show this is a good-time group with depth in talent and a variety of material. From the Marc Bolan tinged vocals of ‘Cinnamon Hill’ to the slower, acoustic edged, Death Cab styling of ‘Each Side of Satan’ you can’t help but fall ever so slightly in love with this band after sampling the delights on offer.
If you want music that is a pure pleasure to listen to, then indulge in Weather Barn. It’s addictive stuff that will definitely leave you wanting more.
The Megadudes – The Ballad Of Terry McGann
Redd Kross,Frankie Valli andThe Darkness have all bought this…probably.
Stanley – Monkeys & Friends
Hailing from Aberdeen, Stanley have crafted a sound that is as bold as the city they call home.
Taking hints from The Divine Comedy and Billy Mackenzie, alongside touches of Radiohead and Scott Walker, Stanley create a mature and musically accomplished sound.
After shows supporting The Bees, Stanley were signed and will be releasing the single, ‘Monkeys & Friends’, on 15th November through Kittiwake Records/The Orchard, before releasing the bands self produced debut album in the spring of 2011.
Song of Return – Trajectory
New EP from hottly tipped scottish electro rockers, who are assured of industry attention in the next 12 months.
Sandwiches and Tea
The much anticipated follow-up to last year’s ‘Monkeys & Freiends’ single.
A good pointer as to what to expect from their debut album later in the year.
Cast of the Capital – Rotten Kids & Haversacks
In June 2009 Cast Of The Capital were asked to play Go North and Rockness. They made such a great impression that they were asked by Vic Galloway to play a BBC acoustic set for his show. Then within two days Steve Lamacq had announced them as his band of the week.
An aspect often praised by critics is Matt’s ability to write witty, heartfelt (and sometimes dark) lyrics and blend them with incredibly upbeat and catchy melodies. This has allowed the band to impress a wide range of audiences from the casual pop listener, to the dedicated indie-art connoisseur.
Alphabet Backwards – SuperHero EP
There’s the heart-wrenchingly authentic tales of love and loss, desperation and dedication, found in Blink Of An Eye. “Our lips have got all the time in the world, to be together” may well be one of the most concise and sincere lyrics of the year, intelligent and pleasing, it’s everything The Wombats aspired, but failed to be. Yesterday In June, the final track on the EP continues in a similar vein, urging at times to break from it’s twee pop constraints, into a heavier number. It’s not all angular and coarse guitars, the male and female vocals combine intriguingly to create an upbeat, cheerful tune. There’s no particle physics involved, or even complex, intricate instrumental sections, but with The Superhero EP, Alphabet Backwards have managed to conjure up a delightful slice of no strings attached indie pop.
Alphabet Backwards – Primark
A catchier slice of quirly and unfathomably catchy pop you are unlikely to find.
Alphabet Backwards – Alphabet Backwards
Alphabet Backwards self titled debut mini-album is released on Kittiwake records and has already received positive reviews from many sectors of the music press as has festival favourite ’80′s Pop Video’ which is released just prior to the album as a download.
Aerials Up – I Am
